Creativity

'im outdoors bought this wonderful little bench home last weekend.  Just something he knocked up out of some off cuts from a job.  Its perfect.  I've already had a little sit, but I'm really looking forward to using it in the summer.

So would you say that was creative?  I would.  But he disagrees.  And I've found this a lot with various people - if it isn't one of the classic 'arts' - you know painting or drawing etc, then you're not creative.  I despair!  What could be more creative than making a bench which looks so good and is comfy to sit on?  Or making a flight of steps in a garden that look good, and are easy to walk up?

I truly believe that everyone is creative in someway - we just have to get away from what school teaches us and remember that creativity is a much bigger thing than just being able to draw.  Go on, go do something fun - I bet its creative too.

Just one more race

I was given a medal hanger as a present. I hadn't realised quite how motivational it would be when I asked for one.  I just wanted somewhere to put my medals that wasn't a box.  Somewhere where I could see them.
Now I can see them all the time, including when I warm up for a run.  I love to look at them, they remind me that 'I can do this'!
The title is perfect - Just one more race.  Every time I finish a race and I have run my hardest and I hurt, I always say 'that's it, I'm done'.  But later when I don't hurt any more and I've had a good run in the sunshine I think maybe one more would be fun.
I hope to add a few more this year. (as you can see I don't hurt right now!)

Feeling the love

If you've followed my blog for a while you'll know that I always write up my trips away.
Our trip to New Zealand was no different.  Except the people who we rented our camper van from, Wilderness, thought it was pretty good and not only asked if they could put it up on their site, but entered it into their 'Your stories' competition!  Look our for the box titled 'Honeymoon in Middle Earth' and you can vote for us.
How cools that!  Maybe I should get in to this writing thing after all.

January's writers group

After a small break from the group for the honeymoon I was back today.  We had a lovely mixed group of regulars and new writers, which got some good conversation going.

I loved the title of one poem - Cutting a diamond with a twig.  Wow!

I had started writing something new while we were away, but I'm not sure what happens next.  I know I need to keep going soon, otherwise I'll loose interest and it will never be finished, but I feel kinda stuck.

This months homework:
Find a sculpture whose story you DON’T know – either in person or in a book/on the internet.  Now write your own story or poem for it.

Metal folder

I know this makes me kinda sad, but I'm all excited about a new tool I've bought and can't wait to use.
Its from elbel libro - who ran the onion skin binding workshop which I attended in October.
Ben the tutor had one (he makes them) and I wanted one as soon as I saw it.  It's a lovely weight, with good grip and a perfect point - just the sort of thing I could have done with when making my paper models.
He didn't have any more in October, but he's just got more stock in so I got in there quick!  It is a thing of beauty and I think it will leave me wondering how on earth I survived without it.

New Zealand

After nearly 4 weeks away its good to be back.  We had a brilliant time exploring New Zealand in a camper van.  You can read all about our adventures here and I'll be back blogging about stuff I've created once the jet lag has worn off!
