Morning Pages Journal - The Sequal

So 3 months ago I made myself a new notebook for my morning pages as I started to follow The Artist Way.  While it was sometimes annoying to find the time to write them, they take me about 20 minutes, I have found them useful and have made some breakthroughs/had ideas etc from writing them, so I decided to keep going.

However, I didn't really want to make a new notebook every time I need more pages.  Part of the point of them is you don't have to keep them.

I did find a lovely leather journal that I liked the look of, but I really wanted something with a substantial cover so I don't have to have a table to write at.  I like that I can write them anywhere.

I'd been thinking about it a lot, but it was only when I was reading The Organic Artist, that I finally came up with a plan.  The Organic Artist is about making your own pens, ink, paper and journals and it just gave me the little nudge I needed.

So I rescued some cardboard out of the bin, and started cutting out a cover.

I also finally attempted binding a book with coptic stitch.  Something I've never tried before, even though I've been bookbinding for ages.  I put it down to the fact that 1. most of my books have spines and 2. when I was learning there weren't many YouTube videos to help you out with technique.

Anyway I've had a go now and it was great!  I do wish I'd learnt this a while ago.  As a first attempt it came out really well, and I can see how to improve it for my next attempt.  Because there will be one as this is a replaceable book block that will slip in and out of my journal cover.  I really love how solid it came out, and the fact it opens flat.

I used paper out of my stash to cover it, and marbled paper from a course I did a couple of years ago.  I used 2mm yellow elastic - the colour is perfect!  And 3mm eyelets round each hole.

The whole thing came out really well and does it's job perfectly.  I can see how I could improve it if I wanted to, so no doubt there will be a mark 2, but for now I'm very pleased with how it came out.
